About this project:

During his last couple of years of college at Oklahoma University in Norman, and througout his three-plus years in the Navy during World War II, my Father wrote love letters to the woman, who finally became his wife a bit before the war ended. To my complete surprise, my Mother saved all of these letters, although the ones that she wrote back to him are long gone.
Because we have one side of this courtship, we can only image what she has been writing to him by his answers to her, which allows us to indulge our imaginations to a much fuller extent than if all was revealed here. It’s a special mystery/love story.
I hope that you enjoy reading these as much as I am in transcribing them for you. It’s a very special gift for a man to have the opportunity to get to know and understand his father as a young man. In fact, when writing these letters, Duke was only a couple of years older than my own son is today.
Facing the uncertainty of his mortal future against the backdrop of global war, Duke is certain about only one thing — that he so very much loves his Anna Mae and can’t wait to get back home to be with her.
